Sustainable Agricultural Organisation Certificate of Registration

Congratulations... 

SAO are now a certified entity. SAO now have the power and with it comes huge responsibilities. SAO believe that hard work and perseverance will enable us to make the change we want to see. By 2050 when most of us will be around 60 years of age, we will be living in a world that is worth living.

Helping the NGO Lupus-alert in its annual fund raising

Event agenda:   Fund raising for Lupus- alert
Date              :   30th September to 3rd October

In collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture


Overview
The Aim of this event was helping the NGO Lupus Alert in its annual fund raising. Boxes were put in strategic points during the days that followed the 100th anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture.


Activity description
During the days that followed the 100th anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture. A total of 5 boxes were put in the disposition of the public to contribute for the fund raising. The boxes were placed near the stall of the Agricultural Society, BSc Agriscience and Technology (Minor-Agrifood Marketing) and Bsc Agriscience and technology (Minor: agricultural extension). The credit of the success of this event goes to 2 of our members; Ms. Danitza Latour and Ms. Vijaya Poonoosamy who had taken the responsibility of the boxes and was excellent in their endeavour.

Painting competition by Association des Parents de Déficients Auditifs (APDA) school students

Overview
The aim of the painting competition was to sensitize children on the importance of agriculture and the impact of climate change. Prior to the painting competition a short power point presentation was done in order to help the children understand the importance and opportunities that agriculture has to offer and also on the impact of climate change and how they can mitigate it through agriculture.


Activity description
This activity would not have been possible without the collaboration of the whole Sustainable Agricultural Organisation Team. They were highly motivated and helped for the proper functioning of the activity throughout its duration. Ms. Anusha Seechurn made a vegetarian chocolate cake especially for the children; Ms. Nivershee Theeroovengadum brought some banana cakes to distribute among the children. Other members contributed to buy fruits, juice and plastic mugs in order to provide a small collation for the children.
The power point presentation started with the collaboration from the staff of APDA School who helped us to communicate and with the children. Since the children only communicate through sign languages, the assistance of the teachers was indispensable. In order to make the presentation more lively, chocolates were given to those children who would answer to questions and participate actively in the presentation. The presentation was performed two times; once with more mature students and the second time with pre-primary children. With the mature students the presentation was more in depth and therefore took longer compared with pre-primary ones which only covered the basic part. In the end we made as such that each child get equal chance to participate and have the opportunity to get a chocolate.
This first activity would never have been possible without the help of the APDA staff members and the Sustainable Agricultural Organisation team. A special thanks equally goes to Mrs. Mariam Sumun for the opportunity she has given to us to carry out our first activity and the welcome she gave to us.
